I lived in a 4 foot by 12 foot room for a year - that's 48 square feet. At the beginning I completely gutted it - down to the studs - and put in new wiring, insulation, sheetrock, moved the door, new double pane window, built in a bed, shelves, closet - used a lot of scavenged and recycled materials - when I was done I could almost heat the room with my TV. I probably spent more than he did.

I called the room "Garage Paradise"

It was being in a cabin on a ship, everything had a place and you had to put everything back after you used it, but it was very comfortable, and I had a few overnight guests a few times who found it quite snug.
