Blueprint for an IC?

I'm back in school finishing my degree. I want to use that degree to develop a kind of blueprint community for IC's. Specifically I want to show people on fixed incomes, who may not have heard of the IC concept how to form and live in an IC. Mostly I'm referring to older women living solely on Social Security.

I think it would solve 3 problems: first by pooling funds people on fixed incomes could sidestep some of the problems endemic to grinding poverty. Next It would draw together people in a similar age group for company, interdependence and security. Third, I believe it will help environmentally due to shared facilities.

I'm thinking of different things that have worked in other communities: tiny private homes which amount to being a bedroom and sitting room but shared laundry, great room, shower and kitchen facilities. This way people can have their privacy yet not isolate themselves. I'm not talking about assisted living. Once someone gets to that stage they need to be in a place where people can care for them.

I'm not sure how this will manifest. I'm still thinking and refining the concept.

Any ideas?

well, here is 2 cents worth late friday night.

I live in an IC, I think your goal is great.

my (limited) experience is that the key thing is not the facility or the economics or the governing system, its getting people to get along with each other for more than a couple of weeks or months. Which is genuinely hard.

To a certain degree [seems like, imho] you can substitute distance and privacy - the more space between people the easier they get along with each other. Conversely, the more distance/privacy, the less intimacy and group cohesion.

    I'm probably oversimplifying .....
